Everyone was lovely and shadowing their contract negotiations from beginning to end was very enlightening! It can’t be understated how useful this sort of practical experience is for those wanting a career in law."

Hollie Lea, Marketing Intern, Final Year Law and Business student, Liverpool John Moores University
"I was fortunate enough to undertake a 100-hour internship at IHLS. During this time, I was able to learn a lot about the commercial and transactional work done by the solicitors and paralegals for their clients. This was by overseeing cliental projects, sitting in on clients’ meetings and reviewing different documents, comments, then receiving feedback. Laura Keane was my mentor during my time, setting my tasks for each day, I carried out what work I could for specific clients, which she oversaw. She ensured that I was confident in whatever tasks I was doing whilst making the experience interesting and informative. As well as this, I shadowed the other staff who sent me training documents and were happy to teach me more about their clients and what their work comprises.
The internship is a great opportunity for any students who are after learning/work experience in a commercial law setting. I was taught so much about the work the firm does and gain a real insight into how this area operates. Furthermore, all the staff were very friendly, helpful, and made the experience thoroughly enjoyable."
Anna-Louise Johnston, Legal Intern, second year LLB student, University of Liverpool
"In my Internship at IHLS, I had the opportunity to gain a substantial insight into the legal world, through the shadowing of senior and trainee solicitors and paralegals. At this position, I had the chance to engage in client meetings and assist in the drafting of legal documents while also leading business development projects directly linked to clients of the firm. I also had the opportunity to receive valuable training on the various legal services IHLS provides to its clients and represent the firm at networking events.
The culture and social environment at IHLS was very welcoming, from day one, which provided the ideal conditions for me to ask all sorts of questions and learn directly from 'hands-on' legal practice. Finally, the constant and close mentoring I received from my supervisors - trainee solicitors - was in my opinion what made this internship so valuable, as they ensured I was occupied with relevant tasks that promoted and developed my legal skills."
Martin Garcia Filipe, Legal Intern, Second Year LLB student, Liverpool John Moores University
"IHLS provided me with a fantastic opportunity to gain some hands on marketing experience which I was looking for, to really see what it would be like working in this role that I had a keen interest in. Throughout my marketing assistant internship I was given control over the company’s social media platforms such as Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn, in order to help boost their social presence, as well as posting blog articles on the company’s website. In addition I was able to produce a leaflet that can be used at careers events for potential employees. Furthermore, I was allowed to be a part of the process of planning the development of the new website, by going to potential client meetings and reviewing briefs they had provided. I felt very comfortable working with IHLS as everyone in the office was so welcoming and friendly, I never felt under any pressure to produce anything extraordinary as they are aware the experience is also about learning and building upon skills you may have picked up over the years. I would highly recommend anyone looking to complete an internship to consider IHLS as they are such a unique company which makes the role more exciting and you will get so much out of the experience!"

They gave me examples of the work they were doing, and I was able to observe how the team drafted contracts up in line what their clients wanted. The team made me feel very welcome and kept me included during the week and didn't mind explaining things."

"I found the experience of the kick-start scheme really good because it helped me have taste of real life lifestyle of working, everyone treated me with respect and I learnt how to do tasks from everyone which am thankful for. The team also helped me with my dyslexia by printing out instructions for my tasks step by step with pictures."
Jack Browne, Administrative Assistant, Kickstart scheme participant
"My internship experience with IHLS provided me a platform to receive first-hand experience into the works of a commercial firm. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the firm for many reasons, but the two reasons that stood head and shoulders above the rest were the culture of the firm and the ‘open-plan’ office set-up. I found the vibrant culture and environment ideal because it kept my mind positive and optimistic whenever I tackled a new day at work. Furthermore, the office set-up allowed me to actively engage in various conversations with many of the firm’s employees regardless of their position. I found this ideal because it helped me retain an inquisitive mindset which helped me thrive in this complex industry."
Jacob Chewe Chishiba, Legal Intern, final year LLB student, University of Liverpool
